Behind the Wire - Summary and Notes

Learning Note 1 - Evidence for why EPZs Did Not Deserve This Attack by ICFTU

The ICFTU uses the same old song, but changes the title to suit its current attack.

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE AGAINST EPZS -- BUT PLENTY OF TALK ABOUT BAD NATIONS AND BAD COMPANIES INTERSPERSED WITH ACADEMIC OPINIONS ABOUT EPZS AND VERY LITTLE DATA WHICH ARE CORRECT OR UP TO DATE. IN ALL THIS IS A HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE AND MISLEADING OUTPUT.

The surprising lack of pertinent information in this BEHIND THE WIRE diatribe is typical of union outpourings in the last 30 years. The idea that 312 paragraphs will convince the reader of the depth of its analysis and the profundity of its conclusions hasn't worked before and does not work now.

Of the 312 paragraphs only 20 name an EPZ -- and these refer to only 11 zones out of 500+ EPZS in the world, and only 8 countries out of 75+ which have EPZs. Of the 11 zones only 3 were accused of housing a factory which maltreated employees. The very idea of condemning ALL of them by the actions of 3 is silly!

Listed below are the paragraph numbers and zones referred to:
